Former British Foreign Secretary David Miliband Visits China

At the invitation of the Chinese People’s Institute of Foreign Affairs (CPIFA), Mr. David Miliband, former Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs of the UK, visited Beijing from 19 to 22 February, 2012.
State Councilor Dai Bingguo, Vice Foreign Minister Song Tao, Mr. Liu Jieyi, Vice Minister in charge of the International Department of the Central Committee of CPC, Mr.Ye Kedong, Vice Director of the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, met with Mr. Miliband respectively. Ambassador Lu Shumin, Vice President of CPIFA, met with him and hosted a welcoming lunch. The two sides exchanged views on current international issues, including Iranian nuclear issue, Syria crisis, Europeansovereigndebtcrisis, China-EU and China-USrelations.
Besides official meetings, Mr. David Miliband also met with Professor Yu Keping, Deputy Director of Central Compilation and Translation Bureau, and Professor Qi Ye, Director of ClimatePolicy Initiative at Tsinghua University. He also shared his views on global policy with a group of teachers and students at the School of Public Policy and Management of Tsinghua University, followed by a Q&A. The Chinese side briefed Mr. Miliband of China’s 12th Five-Year plan and development strategy of low carbon economy.
