On November 28, Wang Chao, President of the Chinese People’s Institute of Foreign Affairs (CPIFA), met with Japanese Ambassador to China Kenji Kanasugi. The two sides exchanged views on China-Japan relations, people-to-people exchanges between the two countries, as well as international and regional issues of common interest.

Wang Chao said that China and Japan are each other’s important neighbors. Peace, friendship and cooperation have all along been the only right choice for the two countries. The China-Japan relationship is now at a critical stage of improvement and development. Not long ago, President Xi Jinping and Prime Minister Ishiba Shigeru met in Lima, Peru. The two sides reaffirmed that they would work together to comprehensively advance the strategic and mutually beneficial relationship in accordance with the principles and consensus set forth in the four political documents between China and Japan, and in the spirit of facing history squarely and looking towards the future. As the first institute dedicated to people-to-people diplomacy of New China, CPIFA played an important role in the normalization of diplomatic relations between China and Japan. CPIFA stands ready to work with the Japanese side to carry out various forms of people-to-people exchanges and dialogues between the two countries, to deepen the mutual understanding between the two peoples and help promote the steady and sustained development of China-Japan relations along on the right track.

Ambassador Kanasugi said that the Japanese side is willing to work with the Chinese side to implement the important consensus reached by leaders of the two countries, and promote exchanges and cooperation between the two countries in the political, economic, people-to-people and cultural fields. He congratulates CPIFA on the 75th anniversary of its founding, and said that the Japanese Embassy in China attaches high importance to CPIFA’s unique role and is ready to strengthen communication and cooperation with the institute for the further development of the bilateral relations.

CPIFA Vice President Zou Xiaoli attended the meeting.
