On November 21, the Global Development Initiative Digital Cooperation Forum of the 2024 World Internet Conference Wuzhen Summit was held in Wuzhen, Zhejiang province. Themed “Jointly Usher in a New Stage of Digital Cooperation and Design a New Blueprint for Global Development”, the forum was co-hosted by the Cyberspace Administration of China, the China International Development Cooperation Agency and the Chinese People’s Institute of Foreign Affairs (CPIFA), and organized by the Internet Society of China. There were over 150 participants from China and foreign government agencies, international organizations, research institutes as well as technology companies.

Yang Tao, Vice President of CPIFA attended the forum and delivered a keynote speech. Yang stated that the Global Development Initiative put forward by President Xi Jinping is a measure of strong support to the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, a major public good that China provides to the international community, and an important practice in building a community with a shared future for mankind. As one of the fastest growing digital economies, China has been committed to helping other developing countries grow the digital economy and bridge the digital divide. Yang stressed that the world today is undergoing profound changes unseen in a century, which brings unprecedented challenges to humanity. Major-country competition should not be the underlying logic of the times; only solidarity and cooperation can help humanity overcome current difficulties. Neither decoupling nor supply-chain disruption is the solution; common development can only be achieved through mutually beneficial cooperation. “Small yard, high fences” is not what a major country should do; only openness and sharing can advance the well-being of humanity.
