The 2nd Eminent Persons Forum on Lancang-Mekong Cooperation Successfully Held

On November 28, 2023, The 2nd Eminent Persons Forum on Lancang-Mekong Cooperation organized by the Chinese People’s Institute of Foreign Affairs (CPIFA) was successfully held in a hybrid format of on-site participation and video link. H.E. Nong Rong, Assistant Foreign Minister of China sent pre-recorded congratulatory messages. H. E. Wang Chao, President of CPIFA and H. E. Professor Dr. Surakiart Sathirathai, former Foreign Minister of Thailand (LMC Co-chair-designate) addressed the opening ceremony respectively.  

Representatives from 6 Lancang-Mekong River countries gave high evaluation to the achievements made during the last 7 years since the launch of the Lancang-Mekong Cooperation Mechanism, put forward ideas and suggestions on jointly addressing crises, focusing on win-win development, deepening cooperation in various fields and enhancing people-to-people exchanges. They also expressed desire to play active roles in maintaining regional stability and prosperity and promoting the building of a Lancang-Mekong community with a shared future.
        
Around 40 people including diplomats from Embassies of Lancang-Mekong River countries attended the forum. The Chinese delegation includes Hu Zhengyue, Vice President of the China Public Diplomacy Association and former Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs; Li Jie, Vice President of CPIFA; Zhao Jinping, Research Fellow and former Director-General of the Department of Foreign Economic Relations, Development Research Center of the State Council; Rong Ying, Vice President and Senior Research Fellow, China Institute of International Studies, etc.. The Mekong River countries delegation includes Pou Sothirak, former Secretary of State of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Cambodia; Sayakane Sisouvong, former Permanent Secretary of Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and former Ambassador to the United Kingdom of the Lao PDR; Thant Kyaw, Chairman of Myanmar Strategic and International Studies Institute, former Deputy Foreign Minister of Myanmar, etc. and eminent persons from business and academic sectors.
