President Wu Hailong Leads Delegation to Attend the Third China-Canada Track II Dialogue

Co-hosted by the Chinese People’s Institute of Foreign Affairs (CPIFA) and the China Institute at the University of Alberta (CIUA), the third China-Canada Track II Dialogue was held in Banff, Canada on September 18, 2018.
The Chinese delegation, headed by Amb. Wu Hailong, President of the CPIFA, includes Mr. Chen Jian, former Vice Minister of Commerce, Amb. Zhang Junsai, former Chinese Ambassador to Canada, Amb. Zhao Weiping, Vice President of the CPIFA, Prof. Jia Qingguo, Dean of School of International Studies of Peking University, Dr. Zhang Ming, Deputy Director of Department of International Exchanges at China Institute of Contemporary International Relations (CICIR), Mr. Li Yong, Deputy Chair of the Expert Committee at the China Association of International Trade, Mr. Cheng Hongliang, Associate Research Professor in the Institute of American Studies at CICIR, and Dr. Su Hua, Associate Research Fellow in the Institute of American Studies at Chinese Academy of Social Sciences.
The Canadian delegation, headed by Prof. Gordon Houlden, Director of the CIUA, includes Mr. Lloyd Axworthy and Mr. Peter MacKay, former Canadian Foreign Ministers, Amb. Guy Saint-Jacques, former Canadian Ambassador to China, Ms. Martha Hall Findlay, former Member of Parliament, Prof. Roland Paris, former Foreign and Defence Policy Advisor to the Prime Minister, Mr. Colin Robertson, Vice President of the Canadian Global Affairs Institute and Ms. Wang Jia, Deputy Director of the CIUA.
At the Opening Ceremony, President Wu Hailong and Director Gordon Houlden delivered remarks respectively. The two delegations engaged in in-depth exchange of ideas on the topics of China-Canada bilateral relations, trade and investment as well as regional issues. Both sides made positive appraisal of bilateral relations, and put forward proposals on strengthening China-Canada practical cooperation and reached a series of consensus.
On September 19, the Chinese delegation visited Ottawa and attended the concluding banquet of the Dialogue hosted by CIUA. Around 40 Canadian government officials, members of Canadian Parliament, scholars and experts were present at the banquet, including Mr. Don Bobiash, Assistant Deputy Minister of Global Affairs, Mr. Joe Peschisolido, Co-Chair of Canada-China Legislative Association and Member of Parliament, Senator Peter Harder and Yuen Pau Woo, Ms. Sarah Taylor, Director General of North Asia and Oceania at Global Affairs, Mr. Philippe Rheault, Senior Policy Advisor to Canada’s Minister of International Trade and former Consul General of Canada in Chongqing, Mr. Graham Shantz, President of Canada-China Business Council, Ms. Susan Gregson and Mr. Ken Sunquist, former Assistant Deputy Ministers of Global Affairs, Amb. Guy Saint-Jacques, former Canadian Ambassador to China, etc. Amb. Lu Shaye, Chinese Ambassador to Canada also attended the banquet. Director Houlden and President Wu delivered speeches, in which they commended the successful conclusion of the Dialogue, and hoped that China and Canada will continue to work together to push forward the rapid development of bilateral relationship.
