At the invitation of Chinese People’s Institute of Foreign Affairs (CPIFA), HRH Prince William, the Duke of Cambridge, visited Beijing, Shanghai and Yunnan from 1st to 4th March, accompanied by Amb. Liu Xiaoming, Chinese ambassador to the UK, and Amb. Sun Rongmin, Vice President of CPIFA. In Beijing, President Xi Jinping and Vice President Li Yuanchao met with the Duke respectively. HRH also visited ShijiaHutongMuseum and the Forbidden City.
In Shanghai, Mr. Zhou Taitong, Vice Chairman of the Shanghai Municipal Committee of the CPPCC,met with the Duke and briefed him the social and economic development of Shanghai. HRH attended activities of the ‘Great Festival of Creativity’, participated in a football class at NanyangSchool and joined the premiere of Paddington Bear.
In Yunnan, Ms. Dao Linyin, Vice Chairwoman of the Standing Committee of the People’s Congress of Yunnan Province, received HRH at the airport and accompanied the delegation throughout the visit. The Duke paid a visit to a Dai village and talked with local villagers, visited an elephant sanctuary and learned the achievements and experience of China on wildlife protection. He planted a tree in XishuangbannaTropicalBotanical Garden, participated in an international conference on bio-diversity conservation in border areas and delivered a speech at the closing ceremony.
