At the invitation of the Chinese People’s Institute of Foreign Affairs (CPIFA), H.E. Dr. Jose RAMOS-HORTA, Former President of the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste, leading a 7-member delegation, visited Beijing and Guangzhou from October 15 to 21, 2014. During the visit, H.E.Mr. Li Yuanchao, Vice President of P.R.China, met with Dr. Ramos-Horta. H.E. Mr. Liu Zhenmin, Vice Foreign Minister, Amassador Lu Shumin, Executive Vice President of CPIFA and Mr. Wu Ken, Deputy Secretary General of Guangdong Provincial Government, met with and hosted welcoming banquets in honor of the delegation respectively. Dr. Ramos-Horta made a speech at Tsinghua University entitled Preventing Conflicts, Ending War and Building Durable Peace, and he also had roundtable discussion with scholars and experts of National Defense University on national defense, army building and regional security.

       Dr. Ramos-Horta expressed his deep admiration on China’s achievements and gratitude for China’s long-term help and support to Timor-Leste. He said Timor-Leste will always promote friendship with China and proposed to further improve the bilateral cooperation in various fields.
