H. E. Mr. Benjamin William Mkapa Visits China

       At the invitation of CPIFA, H. E. Mr. Benjamin William Mkapa, the former President of Tanzania, visited Shenzhen, Zhejiang and Beijing from September 17 to 25, accompanied by his wife and assistants. During his stay in Beijing, Amb. Yang Wenchang, President of CPIFA and Mr. Ren Hongpeng, Vice President of the China Road and Bridge Cooperation (CRBC) met with him. H. E. Mr. Mkapa also attended and delivered an opening remark at the opening ceremony of the International Symposium in Commemorating 2565th Anniversary of Confucius’ Birthday and the 5th Meeting of International Confucian Association (ICA) held in the Great Hall of the People. In Zhejiang, H. E. Mr. Mkapa was received by Ms. Liang Liming, Deputy Governor of Zhejiang Province. He also delivered a speech named “Unscrambling Africa in the New Millennium” at the Zhejiang Normal University. In Shenzhen, Ms. Wu Yihuan, Vice Mayor of Shenzhen met with H. E. Mr. Mkapa.
       H. E. Mr. Mkapa exchanged views with Chinese sides on areas of China-Africa and China-Tanzania relations as well as bilateral cooperation in various fields. He spoke highly of the enormous achievements in China’s reform and opening-up endeavor, and expressed his sincere hope that African countries and China could further deepen mutually beneficial cooperation and realize common development.
