At the invitation of the Chinese People’s Institute of Foreign Affairs (CPIFA), Mr. Timothy Geithner, former United States Secretary of Treasury, visited Beijing from April 27 to 30, 2014. During his stay, Premier Li Keqiang, Minister Liu He of the Office of the Central Leading Group on Financial and Economic Affairs, Governor Zhou Xiaochuan and Vice Governor Yi Gang of the People’s Bank of China met with him respectively. Both sides exchanged views on a wide range of issues including Sino-U.S. relations and China’s economic reform.

       Mr. Geithner spoke highly of the measures by the Chinese government in pushing forward reform comprehensively and expressed his confidence that China will make further progress with its own competitiveness. The U.S. and China should strengthen communication and cooperation for closer bilateral ties. He will make more efforts in advancing the development of Sino-US relations.
