A Delegation of the Club de Madrid Visits China

       At the invitation of the Chinese People’s Institute of Foreign Affairs (CPIFA), a five-member delegation of the Club de Madrid headed by Mr. WimKok, former President of Club de Madrid and former Prime Minister of the Netherlands, and Mr. Petre Roman, former Premier of Romania, visited Beijing from 18 to 23 February 2014. State Councilor YangJiechi, Director of the Counsellor’s Office of the State CouncilChen Jinyu, Executive Vice Chairman of the China Center for International Economic ExchangesWang Chunzheng and Executive Vice President of CPIFALu Shuminmet with the delegation respectively. The two sides exchanged views on China’s economicand social development, the roleof G20 and cooperation betweenClub de Madridand its Chinese counterparts.

 

       On 20 February,CPIFA and Club de Madridco-hosted a seminar on Building a Shared Society. Mr. WimKok, Ambassador Lu Shumin and Ambassador Sun Rongmin, Vice President of CPIFA, delivered opening and closing remarks.H.E.Mr.DoruCostea,Ambassador of Romania, diplomats from EU Mission in China, and officials and scholars from such government institutions, NGOs and think-tanks as the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, All-China Women’s Federation, UN Association of China, China Association of Ethnic Economyand Yunnan University of Nationalities attended the seminar. Chinese and foreign participants shared with each other experiences in building shared and harmonious societies and promoting social cohesion. Chinese participants briefed members of the delegationthe efforts China has made to promote goals set in the Post-2015 Agenda and to build a more harmonious society.
