At the invitation of the CPIFA, the Legislative Delegation, headed by Rep. Dennis Richardson, senior Republican in the House of Representatives, State of Oregon of the United States, visited Beijing, Fuzhou, Xi’an and Tianjin respectively from September 20 to 29, 2013. Ambassador Lu Shumin, Executive Vice President of CPIFA, met with the delegation and hosted a luncheon in its honor in Beijing. The delegation also met with officials from Foreign Affairs Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), Ministry of Education, Ministry of Culture and the Confucius Institute Headquarters (Hanban). In addition, the delegation signed a Memorandum of Understanding on Cultural Exchanges between China International Culture Association and Oregon-China Sister State Committee of the Oregon Legislature with Bureau for External Cultural Relations, Ministry of Culture in Beijing. In Fuzhou and Tianjin, the delegation called upon Fujian Provincial Political Consultative Conference and Department of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation and Tianjin Municipal People’s Congress. The trip also covered Pingtan Haitan National Scenic Area in Fujian Province and Tianjin Harbor Economic Area. The two sides exchanged views on the management of Confucius Institute and Classrooms in Oregon, and the establishment of ecological communities. The delegation members expressed their interest in strengthening cooperations with China in various fields.
