Congressional Delegation Visited China

       At the invitation of the Chinese People’s Institute of Foreign Affairs (CPIFA), the U.S. Congressional delegation led by Senator Kirsten Gillibrand(D,NY) visited Beijing from September 5 to 6. Included in the delegation are Senator Mazie Hirono(D,HI),Congressman Daniel Benishek(R,MI),Congresswoman Terrrycina Sewell(D,AL), Congresswoman Grace Meng(D,NY) and their staff. During their stay in Beijing, Vice President Li Yuanchao, Mme. Fu Ying, Chairwoman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the National People’s Congress, Mr. Zheng Zeguang, Assistant Foreign Minister and Rear Admiral Li Ji, Deputy Director of Foreign Affairs Office of the Ministry of National Defense met with them respectively. The two sides exchanged views on relevant issues concerning Sino-US relations.

       While meeting with the delegation, Vice President Li Yuanchao said, joint efforts are needed from both China and the United States to build a new model of major-country relationship. The two sides should strengthen communications and exchanges at all levels to enhance mutual understanding and trust. We hope the U.S. congress will play a constructive role in promoting the friendly exchanges between the two peoples and maintaining the overall development of bilateral relations, so as to consolidate the foundation of popular support for our bilateral relations.

       Gillibrand said, the development of U.S.-China relations enjoys a broad prospect and future. The delegation members will actively promote the mutual understanding and friendly cooperation between the two peoples.
