Vice President Li Yuanchao and Vice Premier Wang Yang Meet with the CAP Delegation

       Vice President Li Yuanchao and Vice Premier Wang Yang met with Chairman John Podesta of CAP and his delegation respectively on the afternoon of September 11 in Beijing. The two sides exchanged views on issues of Sino-U.S. relations.

       Vice President Li Yuanchao said, the two heads of state of China and the United States recently affirmed that the two countries will unswervingly follow the path of building a new model of major-country relationship. The two sides should adhere to the principles of seeking harmony in diversity, seeking common ground while shelving differences, non-conflict and non-confrontation, mutual respect and win-win cooperation. Exchanges between the two countries’ think tanks provide important channels for enhancing mutual understanding between the two peoples, and can play a positive role in helping to build such a new model of relationship.
       Vice Premier Wang Yang said, the current Sino-U.S. relationship is developing with a sound momentum. The two sides are committed to implementing the consensus reached by President Xi Jinping and President Obama and are making joint efforts to build up a new model of major-country relationship. Economic and trade cooperation is an important area that can reflect the feature of win-win cooperation of this new model of major-country relationship between China and U.S. The two sides should make continuous efforts to deepen cooperation, strengthen policy coordination and make contribution to the sustained and stable growth of global economy.
       John Podesta said, the Center for American Progress attaches great importance to U.S.-China relationship and is willing to offer advice and suggestions for the building of a new model of major-country relationship. It will also play a positive role in promoting the mutual understanding and cooperation between the two countries.
       CAP delegation was invited to China by CPIFA to attend the forum on China-U.S. relationship cosponsored by the Hong Kong based China-United States Exchange Foundation and CPIFA. The participants from the two countries held candid and in-deep discussions on various topics relating to the building of a new model of major-country relationship. The delegation also visited Shanghai.
