Vice President Lu Shumin Attends the “Canada-China Opportunities in Transition” Conference in Ottawa

       Amb. Lu Shumin, Vice President of the Chinese People’s Institute of Foreign Affairs paid a visit to Canada from March 19 to 27. He attended the “Canada-China Opportunities in Transition” conference hosted by the National Capital Branch of Canadian International Council (CIC) in Ottawa and delivered a keynote speech entitled “The Chinese Dream: Development, Peace and Cooperation”. In his speech, he elaborated the significance of the Chinese dream, namely bringing about the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation, both to China and the rest of the world. He pointed out that the “Chinese dream” was not only a dream pursued by the Chinese people for their own better life and their own country’s prosperity, but also a dream of safeguarding world peace, promoting international cooperation and realizing mutual benefit and win-win results. The conference attracted more than 200 participants including prominent figures of Canada, such as Hon. John Manley, Former Deputy Prime Minister, Hon. Bill Graham, CIC Co-vice Chair and Former Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Mr. Peter Harder, President of the Canada-China Business Council.

       During his stay in Canada, Amb. Lu held discussions with Asia Pacific Foundation, the Monk School for Global Affairs at the University of Toronto, and the Department of Asian Studies at the University of British Columbia. He was also interviewed by CBC Radio, the Embassy and the Asia Pacific Foundation.
