The Second Meeting of China-Australia Forum held in Beijing

       The Second Meeting of China-Australia Forum (CAF), organized jointly by the Chinese People’s Institute of Foreign Affairs and the Australian Centre on China in the World of the Australian National University, was held in Beijing on November 15th. More than 30 delegates from China and Australia, including government officials, business leaders, academia and media personages attended the meeting. Mr. Li Zhaoxing, Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of National People’s Congress and head of the Chinese delegation, and Mr. Gareth Evans, Former Australian Foreign Minister and head of the Australian delegation delivered opening remarks respectively, and participated in the discussion. As the meeting took place on the eve of the 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Australia, the delegates reviewed the past and looked into the future of the bilateral relationship. The discussions were featured by topics of strengthening political mutual trust, enhancing bilateral trade and economic cooperation, and intensifying personnel and cultural exchanges and cooperation. Suggestions for the further development of China-Australian relations in the long run were put forward by both sides during the discussion.

 

 

 

 

 

       Mr. Li Zhaoxing and Mr. Gareth Evans also delivered keynote speeches at a welcoming dinner hosted by CPIFA in honor of the CAF delegates on November 14th.
       CAF is a bilateral dialogue mechanism established in accordance with the memorandum signed between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China and the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade in 2011. The CAF meeting is held alternatively in China and Australia every year. The First Meeting of CAF was held in Canberra in November 2011.
