Latvian Parliament Delegation Visits China

       At the invitation of the Chinese People’s Institute of Foreign Affairs (CPIFA), a 9-member delegation of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Latvian Parliament, headed by Mr. Ojars Kalnins, visited Beijing, Xi’an and Shanghai from 20 to 27 November, 2012.

       During their stay in Beijing, Mr. Sitar, Vice Minister in charge of the United Front Work Department of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC), Mr. Xie Hangsheng, Vice Foreign Minister, Mr. Nan Zhenzhong, Vice Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the National People’s Congress, and Ambassador Peng Keyu, Vice President of CPIFA, met with the delegation respectively. The delegation was also received by Mr. Zhang Maizeng, Vice Chairman of the standing committee of the Shaanxi Provincial People’s Congress, and Mr. Fu Jihong, Deputy Director-General of Shanghai Foreign Affairs Office.
       In the meetings, the Chinese side briefed the delegation on the recently-concluded 18th National Congress of the CPC, ‘one country, two systems’ policy and the system of regional ethnic autonomy. The two sides exchanged views on China-Latvian relations and Tibet.
