The Syrian National Council Delegation Visits China

At the invitation of the Chinese People’s Institute of Foreign Affairs (CPIFA), Dr. Bourhan Ghalioun, President of the Syrian National Council, an opposition political group of Syria, led a delegation to Beijing from May 6 to 9.
During the visit, Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi met with President Ghalioun and his delegation. Vice Foreign Minister Zhai Jun held talks with the delegation, and Amb. Lu Shumin, Vice President of CPIFA held a banquet in their honor. Officials from International Department of Central Committee of Communist Party of China had talks with the delegation. They also had panel discussions on Syrian situation with the Chinese experts and scholars on Middle East affairs.
The delegation briefed the Chinese side on the current situation in Syria, and expressed its support for UN-Arab League Envoy Kofi Annan’s 6-point proposal, its advocacy for a political solution to the Syrian issue, and its opposition to outside interference. Mr. Ghalioun highly said that the Syrian National Council values China’s important role in advancing a solution to the Syrian issue and thanked China for the humanitarian assistance towards the Syrian people.
