U.S. House Representative Jim Matheson Visited China

At the invitation of Chinese People’s Institute of Foreign Affairs (CPIFA), Mr. Jim Matheson, U.S. House Representative from Utah, who also serves as Chief Deputy Whip in the Democratic Caucus of the U.S. House of Representatives and Co-Chairman of the Blue Dog Coalition, together with Mr. Kurt Schrader, U.S. House Representative from Oregon and member of the Blue Dog Coalition, led a 9-member delegation visited Beijing, Xi’an and Shanghai from April 3 to 10.
During the visit, Mr. Cui Tiankai, Vice Foreign Minister of China, Mr. Zhang Shengchao, Vice Chairman of Shaanxi Provincial CPPCC, Mr. Sha Hailin, Deputy Secretary-General of Shanghai Municipal Government, and Mr. Zhang Ping, Vice President of CPIFA, met with the delegation respectively. The delegation visited Ministry of Health and Beijing Hospital to learn about China’s reform on medical care system and also visited Walmart store in Beijing, Microsoft China Research & Development Center, Xi’an Applied Materials, China Executive Leadership Academy Pudong, Shanghai General Electronic Company and Shanghai General Motors Co. Ltd.
For most of the delegation members, this is their first visit to China. They expressed praise for the achievement China has made in economic and social development and said that they believe a healthy and stable U.S.-China relationship is in the fundamental interests of the two peoples. They also expressed their willingness of to continually devote themselves to the promotion of bilateral relations in the future.
