President Yang Wenchang met with Kato Koichi, Japanese Congressman and President of Japan-China Frie

       On August 22, Amb. Yang Wenchang, President of the Chinese People’s Institute of Foreign Affairs (CPIFA), met with Mr. Kato Koichi, Japanese congressman and President of Japan-China Friendship Association (JCFA) who came to China to “Beijing-Tokyo Forum”. Mr. Huang Xingyuan, Secretary-General of CPIFA and Mr. Tian Peiliang, Deputy Secretary-General of CPIFA were present at the meeting.

       President Yang praised highly of Kato Koichi’s long-term commitment for Sino-Japanese friendship. He said that people-to-people exchanges were as important as the high-level official contacts. As a politician, Mr. Kato Koichi has also been devoting himself to people-to-people exchanges between Japan and China, and has made great contributions to promoting bilateral relations. Yang wished that CPIFA and JCFA could work together to carry out a series of high-level people-to-people exchanges to improve communication and understanding between the two peoples.
       Mr. Kato Koichi said that people’s perception was the base of good bilateral relations, and “Beijing-Tokyo Forum” had achieved a great deal in reaching a consensus on how to improve the people’s perception of each other in-depth discussions. Together with CPIFA, JCFA will continue its effort to promote Japan-China friendly relations.
       The two sides also exchanged views on issues such as Sino-Japan relations and the political situation in both countries.
