Visit to China by the Delegation of Israel-China Parliamentary Friendship Association

       At the invitation of the Chinese People’s Institute of Foreign Affairs(CPIFA), the Israel-China Parliamentary Friendship Association Delegation headed by M.K. David Rothem, Chairman of the Association visited Beijing, Shanghai and Harbin from July 12th to 19th . Mr. Li Shishi, Chairman of Legislative Affairs of the Standing Committee of China National People’s Congress, Mr. Cai Jinbiao, Vice President of CPIFA, Mr. Wu Hanmin, Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of Shanghai Municipal People’s Congress and Mrs. Fu Fengchun, Vice Chairwoman of the Standing Committee of Heilongjiang Provincial People’s Congress met with the delegation respectively. They introduced China’s economic and social development and exchanged views with the delegation on issues of regional situation and Israel-Palestine peace talk. The scholars of the Institute of West-Asian and African Studies, China Academy of Social Sciences and the Center of Jewish Studies Shanghai, Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences held seminars with the delegation respectively. In Shanghai and Harbin, the delegation visited exhibitions on the Jews and their residential and work places.

       The delegation praised highly of China’s great achievements on economy and infrastructural construction. They showed their appreciation for the effort that the Chinese government made to protect the Jews’ architecture and culture. They regarded it as a symbol of Chinese friendliness towards the Jews and the historical evidence of the friendship between the peoples of China and Israel.
