Former British Foreign Secretary David Miliband Visits China

At the invitation of the Chinese People’s Institute of Foreign Affairs (CPIFA), Mr. David Miliband, former Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs of the UK, visited Beijing from 15 to 17 March 2011.
State Councilor Dai Bingguo, Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi and CPIFA President Yang Wenchang met with Miliband and exchanged views with him on current international hot issues, global strategic scenario and China-UK relations.
Mr. Miliband also met with Mr. Cheng Siwei, Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of the 10th National People’s Congress, Mr. Chen Baosheng, Vice President of the Party School of the CPC, Mr. Liu Shijin, Vice President of Development Research Centre of the State Council, Mr. Cao Peixi, President of China Hua'neng Group, and Mr. Yang Hua, CEO of China National Offshore Oil Corporation. The Chinese side briefed Mr. Miliband of China’s 12th Five-Year Programme and development strategy of low carbon economy. The two sides exchanged views on green economy and new energy.
Mr. Miliband gave a lecture on European Politics and Foreign Policy at CPIFA and held discussions with scholars at the Institute of World Economics and Politics of Chinese Academy of Social Sciences as well as faculties at the School of Public Policy and Management of Tsinghua University.
