Former Vice President of the United States Albert Gore Visited Beijing

Hon. Albert Gore, former Vice President of the United States, visited Beijing from January 5 to 7, 2011. During his visit, Mr. Chen Siwei and Mme. Gu Xiulian, the former Vice Chairs of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress, Vice Minister Zhang Xiao Qiang of the National Development & Reform Commission met with him respectively. Amb. Chen Yonglong, Vice President of the Chinese People’s Institute of Foreign Affairs (CPIFA), met with Mr. Gore and hosted a lunch in his honor. Both sides exchanged views on Sino-US relations, global climate change, the Korea Peninsula situation etc. Mr. Gore also delivered a speech at the 2011 Global Urban Development Forum.
Mr. Gore said that the US and China are the two biggest economies and the largest emitters of greenhouse gas in the world. Both sides should have the political will of assuming common responsibilities to promote sustainable development of the world, for the political will itself is a renewable energy. The US and China could enhance exchanges and cooperation in fields like solar power, the internet of things, the construction of high speed railway, so as to build green cities jointly.
