The 14th Symposium on China-Japan Relations Successfully Held

On November 26, the 14th Symposium on China-Japan Relations, co-hosted by the Chinese People’s Institute of Foreign Affairs (CPIFA) and the Nakasone Peace Institute (NPI), was successfully held via video link.About 20 delegates headed by Mr. Wang Chao, President of the CPIFA, and Mr. Hirofumi Nakasone, Acting Chairman of the NPI, attended the meeting.

Mr. Wang Chao and Mr. Hirofumi Nakasone delivered opening remarks. The Delegates had in-depth discussions on the topic of “Building China-Japan Relations in Line with the Requirements of the New Era”. Both sides agreed that, to implement the consensus reached by President Xi Jinping and Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, China and Japan shall take advantage of the impending 50th anniversary of the normalization of bilateral diplomatic ties and Beijing Winter Olympics to enhance dialogues and deepen mutually-beneficial cooperation, so as to build China-Japan relations in line with the requirements of the new era.

The Chinese participants included Mr. Cheng Yonghua, former Chinese Ambassador to Japan, Ms. Shi Ling, Vice President of the CPIFA, Dr. Jiang Ruiping, former Vice President of China Foreign Affairs University, Mr. Yang Bojiang, Director of Institute of Japanese Studies of Chinese Academy of Social Sciences,Ms. Jiang Xinfeng, Researcher of Chinese Military Academy, Mr. Zong Liang, Chief Researcher of Bank of China, Mr. Zuo Xiaodong, Vice President of Chinese Information Security Institute, and Mr. Zhang Jifeng, Researcher of Institute of Japanese Studies of Chinese Academy of Social Sciences.

The Japanese participants included Mr. Fujisaki Ichiro, President of NPI, Mr. Watanabe Hideo, former Minister of Posts and Telecommunications, Mr. Arai Hisamitsu, Vice President of NPI, Mr. Kawashima Shin, Professor of the University of Tokyo, Mr. Tokuchi Hideshi, former Vice-Minister of Defense for International Affairs, and Ms. Yoshioka Keiko, editorial board member of the Asahi Shimbun.

The Symposium on China-Japan Relations was initiated in 2007 and is held annually in rotation between China and Japan. As an important platform for experts and scholars from various fields to meet regularly and exchange ideas, the symposium plays a positive role in deepening mutual understanding between the two peoples and promoting bilateral relations.
